The Associate Subsea Engineer utilises existing Subsea procedures to solve routine or standard problems. They receive instruction, guidance, and direction from others within the team, and they will leverage their conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures related to Subsea Engineering. The associate subsea engineer will become involved in all aspects of subsea engineering with emphasis on designs suitable for installation using the company’s assets. The candidate will assist the Installation Analysis Team in performing Installation Engineering including pipelay, flexible lay and structures deployment. The job involves getting familiar with industry standards and analysis software packages, preparation of analysis models, perform analysis and prepare technical reports.
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree in Engineering
- 0-3 years of experience in oil and gas
- Learning the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
- Learning design techniques and analysis methods
- Preferably Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or member of a professional engineering society as applicable
- Eager to learn
- Working knowledge of English, both oral and written
- HSE, TQM, and cost-conscious

Exposure to finite element analysis packages (Abaqus, ANSYS) is beneficial. Good knowledge in programming skills (Python, VBA, or C++) is an advantage. Excellent verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to think outside the box for innovative solutions are essential.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Support FEED/EPCIC projects with engineering activities related to shallow water and deepwater subsea pipeline lateral buckling analysis, pipeline walking analysis, fracture mechanics, and 3D structural analysis.
- This position is within the Advance Analysis team and requires someone who is analytically minded with strong engineering skills to perform numerically intensive calculations.
- Learn the content and application of relevant industry codes, standards, guidelines, design methods, and analysis.
- Perform detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on basic engineering tasks related to Subsea Engineering tasks for the installation of offshore facilities, including jackets and top sides.
- Apply knowledge and skills to complete routine assignments under close supervision and mentoring.
- Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses, including design reports and procedures.
- Organise own work to meet deadlines set by others.
- Tender engineering support with an emphasis on document review, assisting with the preparation of subcontractor documents, bid evaluation, and vendor selection.
- Assist senior engineers with the preparation of technical reports, design calculations, engineering analysis, and interface with third parties, including subcontractors and verification bodies.
- Attend and prepare for project progress meetings and departmental meetings.
- Gain an understanding of the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements.
- Prepare sketches of detail design to guide Designers and check drawings.
- Keep the Area Lead/Lead Engineer apprised of all activities, progress, and concerns.
- Develop an awareness of costs related to own work.
- Develop a basic understanding of McDermott's business and the customers it serves.
- Develop basic knowledge of McDermott's business units and interactions, including engineering, fabrication, and marine functions.
- Develop advanced skills in the use of standard productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Understand and apply standards and procedures.
- Capture project lessons learned into McDermott’s Lessons Learned system.
- Participate in internal, customer, or third-party technical audits on engineering deliverables and vendor documents.
