The R&D Process Technologist sits in a pivotal role in the R&D team, responsible for the implementation of new products and processes into manufacturing plants. The role supports projects from development through to commercial launch, supports the implementation of proactive technology platforms projects and provides technical support for continuous improvement projects in conjunction with cross-functional partners in McCormick's Peterborough location.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive flawless implementation of new condiment products from trial to launch and handover to BAU:
- Scale up recipes from kitchen development to factory friendly, optimized at the start of scale up.
- Use specialist recipe software systems (DevEx, FT Batch, MES) to set up recipes during data setup tasks.
- Lead factory trials and launch productions, collating key process and analytical data and issue trial reports.
- Set up key documentation in preparation for commercial launch production.
- Work with cross-functional teams after launch to analyse key data for handover to BAU.
- Support the development and implementation of proactive technology platforms projects:
- Design, develop and de-risk new processes and product designs defined by technology futures roadmap.
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders to ensure relevant technologies are scoped and assessed.
- Lead R&D workstream in cross-functional strategic site improvement projects:
- Support Peterborough site projects with technical process, product and/or ingredient information consultancy including production recipe updates.
- Conduct data analysis to help scope batch size optimization, mass balance optimization & identify opportunities for waste reduction and efficiency gains.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- BSc in Food Science/Food Engineering or BEng in Process/Chemical Engineering.
- Relevant experience in Food & Beverage industry within a commercial production environment.
- Previous experience scaling products/processes from bench to factory scale; pilot plant experience desirable.
- Proven ability to drive data-led process improvements.
- Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated business acumen and understanding of operational impact.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently and within teams.
- Full driving license preferred.
