Lead one of the UK’s biggest FM transformations. Shape the future of retirement living.
McCarthy Stone is the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, supporting over 22,000 homeowners across 560+ developments nationwide. Our purpose is simple but powerful: to help older people live independently, safely and happily — and we’re proud of the positive difference we make every day.
We’re now looking for a Head of Procurement – FM to take ownership of a £50m spend portfolio and lead a once-in-a-generation transformation of our Facilities Management supply chain.
The Opportunity
This is a high-impact, senior role with real autonomy. You’ll lead the overhaul of our Hard FM model, consolidating a fragmented supply base into 4–8 national and regional partners, with go-live planned for Autumn 2026. You’ll own the journey end-to-end: tendering, contracting, mobilisation and ongoing performance.
Alongside this, you’ll unlock significant value across Soft FM and Indirects — a greenfield category with huge opportunity to improve quality, cost, innovation and sustainability.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own and lead the FM procurement category across Hard FM and Soft FM/Indirects
- Deliver the Hard FM transformation: tender, contract, mobilise and embed new suppliers
- Act as the commercial authority for FM spend and supplier performance
- Build and run best-in-class performance management frameworks
- Develop category strategies that balance quality, safety, cost and service charge affordability
- Drive behavioural and cultural change in how the business partners with its supply chain
- Engage confidently with stakeholders from Estate Managers through to Executive Board
- Lead and develop a small procurement team
What You’ll Bring
- Proven leadership of Hard FM procurement in a multi-site environment
- Experience managing large national/regional FM providers
- Strong commercial, analytical and negotiation skills
- Track record of delivering measurable cost and quality improvements at pace
- Gravitas, clarity and confidence engaging at all levels of the organisation
- CIPS qualified (or working towards)
- Experience in housing, landlord & tenant legislation, leaseholder environments or private equity is desirable but not essential.
Why Join Us?
- Lead a high-profile transformation with genuine scale and visibility
- Make a real difference to homeowners and communities across the UK
- Work in a values-led organisation focused on wellbeing and quality of life
- Hybrid working with a collaborative, supportive leadership team
If you’re a strategic procurement leader who thrives on transformation and wants their work to truly matter, we’d love to hear from you.
