We are looking for an experienced Head of Fire & Building Safety to provide strategic leadership and assurance across our residential estate. This senior role is responsible for ensuring fire safety, building safety and related statutory obligations are effectively managed, clearly evidenced and continuously improved.
Working at a strategic and governance-focused level, you will lead the organisation’s approach to compliance with the Fire Safety Act, Building Safety Act and associated legislation. You will work closely with Asset Management and Property Operations teams, providing professional oversight while maintaining appropriate separation between life-safety assurance and delivery.
The role represents the organisation at senior governance forums and leads professional engagement with regulators, including Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service as our Primary Authority.
Key responsibilities:- Lead the development and oversight of fire and building safety strategies, policies and frameworks
- Provide assurance that statutory fire, building safety and health & safety obligations are met
- Oversee fire risk assessment arrangements, remediation governance and safety assurance
- Lead the organisation’s approach to Building Safety Act compliance, including higher-risk buildings where applicable
- Provide strategic oversight of safety data, systems and the “golden thread” of information
- Deliver clear assurance reporting to Executive, Board and governance committees
- Lead and develop a professional fire and safety team
- Support clear, transparent engagement with residents and stakeholders on safety matters
You will have significant senior-level experience in fire safety, building safety or regulatory compliance within complex, multi-occupied environments. You are comfortable operating at Executive and Board level, experienced in regulatory engagement, and able to apply sound judgement in balancing compliance, resident safety and operational needs.
- Senior experience in fire safety, building safety or a related compliance discipline
- Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and building safety frameworks
- Experience working with regulators, audits and inspections
- Experience leading specialist professional teams
- Background in residential, housing, healthcare or similarly regulated sectors
- NEBOSH Fire Safety (or equivalent) and relevant professional training
- Membership of a recognised professional body and commitment to CPD
