Minerals & Waste Planner

Location: Manchester

Salary: Competitive (DOE)

Looking for more than a desk-based planning role?

We're looking for someone who can make things happen.

This isn't a role where you'll sit behind a screen processing planning applications all day. We're after a commercially aware Planner who enjoys rolling their sleeves up, solving problems, driving projects forward and getting involved wherever they're needed.

You'll join a growing specialist consultancy operating within the minerals, waste, remediation and environmental sectors, working alongside business owners and industry experts on projects that genuinely shape landscapes, unlock development opportunities and support long-term environmental outcomes.

If you're the sort of person who spots opportunities, takes ownership and isn't afraid to step outside of a traditional job description, we want to hear from you.

What's in it for you?

  • Significant autonomy and influence
  • Opportunity to work directly with business leaders and clients
  • Exposure to minerals, waste, remediation and environmental projects across the UK
  • Genuine opportunity to shape the future of a growing business
  • Varied role with no two days the same
  • Long-term career progression

The Opportunity

You'll play a key role across a diverse portfolio of minerals, waste, remediation and environmental projects.

Of course, you'll be involved in planning applications, planning strategy and stakeholder engagement. But that's only part of the job.

We're looking for someone who enjoys getting involved in the wider business, building relationships, identifying solutions, supporting clients and helping drive projects from concept through to delivery.

This is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants more responsibility, more variety and more influence than they're getting in a traditional planning consultancy environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Preparing and managing planning applications
  • Developing planning strategies and delivering advice to clients
  • Building relationships with Local Authorities, stakeholders and consultees
  • Coordinating technical specialists and project teams
  • Supporting minerals, waste and restoration projects through the planning process
  • Identifying opportunities and helping clients move projects forward
  • Working closely with directors and senior stakeholders
  • Getting involved in wider business activities where your support can add value
  • Taking ownership and helping deliver outcomes, not just reports

About You

You'll already have experience within one or more of the following:

  • Minerals & Waste Planning
  • Quarrying & Aggregates
  • Land Remediation
  • Waste Management
  • Environmental Planning
  • Planning Consultancy
  • Local Authority Planning

More importantly, you'll be someone who:

  • Likes taking responsibility
  • Sees problems and looks for solutions
  • Builds relationships naturally
  • Enjoys working at pace
  • Is commercially aware
  • Doesn't need everything directing
  • Is happy to get stuck into whatever needs doing
  • Wants to be part of a growing business rather than just another employee

Why This Role?

Opportunities like this don't come around often.

Most planning roles focus solely on planning. This one offers the chance to become a genuine part of the business, influence projects from the outset and work within specialist sectors where expertise is highly valued and demand continues to grow.

If you're looking for a role where you can have a real impact, take ownership and help drive both projects and business growth, we'd love to hear from you.

McCarthy Recruitment is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
