Looking for an opportunity to work on projects that genuinely make a difference? We're looking for an Ecological Consultant to join a growing multidisciplinary environmental consultancy, supporting a diverse range of planning, quarry restoration, land regeneration and development projects across the UK.
This isn't a traditional consultancy role focused purely on surveys and reports. As an Ecological Consultant, you'll be involved from the earliest stages of projects, providing practical ecological advice that helps shape developments while balancing environmental outcomes with commercial objectives.
You'll work closely with planners, engineers and environmental specialists, carrying out site surveys, supporting Biodiversity Net Gain and helping deliver sustainable, long-term solutions across a varied portfolio of projects.
What you'll be doing:
- Carrying out Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), habitat surveys and ecological site walkovers
- Identifying ecological constraints and opportunities across planning and development projects
- Providing practical ecological advice to support project design and planning applications
- Supporting the delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), including habitat creation, enhancement and long-term management
- Assessing when specialist ecological surveys are required and coordinating external ecological consultants where necessary
- Producing and reviewing technical ecological reports
- Working alongside planners, engineers and project teams to develop practical, commercially balanced solutions
- Visiting quarry, restoration and development sites as projects progress
- Keeping up to date with ecological legislation, planning policy and industry best practice
What we're looking for:
- Previous experience working as an Ecological Consultant or in a similar ecology role
- Experience undertaking PEAs and ecological habitat surveys
- Good understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain and the statutory biodiversity metric
- Knowledge of UKHab classification and ecological survey methodologies
- Strong report writing and communication skills
- Commercially aware with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach
- Full UK driving licence
