We are recruiting an experienced Site Manager to lead a significant enabling works and earthworks package as part of a complex civils programme in Derbyshire. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role suited to a Site Manager with a strong engineering and earthworks background who can take ownership of bulk excavation, cut-and-fill, platform construction, ground improvement and formation works. You will be responsible for driving safe, efficient and high-quality delivery across site, coordinating plant, labour and subcontractors while maintaining programme, cost and quality control.
Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience delivering earthworks, cut-and-fill, bulk excavation and platform build-ups on live civils or construction sites
- Strong technical understanding of ground improvement and stabilisation, compaction control and testing, and capping layer specifications
- Demonstrable leadership of subcontractors, plant and logistics, with a track record of driving programme and productivity
- A safety-first mindset with excellent H&S, RAMS, quality assurance and compliance discipline
- SMSTS, CSCS (Gold or Black preferred) and First Aid
- Familiarity with GPS / machine control, ITPs and as-built documentation is advantageous
The Role & Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage daily earthworks activities including muck-shift, cut-and-fill, level control and platform construction
- Coordinate plant, haul routes, materials and site logistics to maximise productivity
- Assure quality against design and specification, including ITPs, compaction testing, formation sign-off and as-built records
- Lead RAMS briefings, toolbox talks, site inspections and audits, ensuring full CDM and environmental compliance
- Manage subcontractors, short-interval programmes, progress reporting and production tracking
- Interface with groundworks, foundations and utilities teams, overseeing drainage tie-ins where they intersect with the earthworks scope
