About the Opportunity

McCarthy & Byrne Solutions Ltd is recruiting experienced Steel Fixers on behalf of a leading construction contractor for a major project based in Leeds. We are seeking reliable, highly skilled Steel Fixers with experience working on reinforced concrete structures who can demonstrate a strong commitment to quality workmanship, productivity, and health & safety.

The Role

As a Steel Fixer, you will play a key role in the installation of reinforcement steel for reinforced concrete structures, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with engineering specifications and programme requirements. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality reinforcement works across a variety of structural elements while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting reinforcement drawings, bar bending schedules, and engineering specifications.
  • Measuring, cutting, bending, and fixing reinforcement steel where required.
  • Installing reinforcement bars, mesh, and reinforcement cages for foundations, slabs, columns, walls, beams, and other reinforced concrete structures.
  • Positioning and securing reinforcement using the correct tying methods, spacers, and supports.
  • Working closely with shuttering carpenters, concrete gangs, crane operators, and site supervisors to ensure work progresses efficiently.
  • Carrying out quality checks to ensure reinforcement is installed correctly prior to concrete pours.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area.
  • Ensuring all work complies with project specifications, industry standards, and current health and safety legislation.
  • Reporting defects, safety concerns, or engineering discrepancies to site management.
  • Contributing to the successful delivery of programme milestones through efficient and professional working practices.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must have:

  • Valid CSCS Card (Essential)
  • Proven experience as a Steel Fixer on commercial, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret reinforcement drawings.
  • Sound understanding of reinforced concrete construction methods.
  • Experience working safely within fast-paced construction environments.
  • Own PPE.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong work ethic with a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Right to work in the UK.
