As a Senior Media Manager you will provide vital support to the Media Account Director and Associate Director on a range of media accounts. You will be part of a structured and highly creative media team that provides media solutions that truly help our clients’ businesses grow and prosper.
A large part of the role is fostering and developing exceptional client relationships with marketing teams at a comparable level. You will quickly gain a good understanding of your clients’ business, including what the key business and marketing issues are. Working with the wider media team you will develop media strategies and plans that directly respond to these issues, ultimately generating growth.
As a Senior Media Manager, you will be expected to identify opportunities for business growth recommending ways to deliver this via effective and creative media. Most importantly, we ask you to take responsibility for yours and your team’s learning and career development by participating in learning events, undertaking self-learning and positively contributing to your performance management requirements. Lead, motivate, develop and appraise your team.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Champion Media:
- Partner with Business Leadership to evaluate work based on strategic direction and client needs.
- Support your team to develop an understanding of the media process and take on commercial project ownership.
- Measurement of campaign performance for clients.
- Problem Solving:
- Work with your wider media team to identify client business and marketing problems and provide information and data necessary to generate tailored media solutions.
- Develop an understanding of the UM ‘Futureproof’ planning process and how it helps us solve our clients’ business challenges.
- Business Relationship Management:
- Closely track any changes in the client’s business and their sectors, thinking about how media and channels could be used to overcome issues that these changes may create.
- Quickly build a strong relationship with comparable level clients and be proactive in discussing the market they operate in.
- Engage clients with relevant industry information which shows a clear understanding of their pressures, objectives and ambitions.
- Strategic Thinking:
- Work with your team and use the Futureproof strategic planning process from start to finish bringing in team members and wider UM colleagues where necessary.
- Ensure that all strategic planning work is on brief and delivers against the business and marketing objective.
- Creative Thinking:
- Understand the nuances of each media type, their key strengths and buying models so that you can contribute to the development of media strategies/schedules.
- Use that channel knowledge to be able to brief channel specialists as to their roles in delivering the overall agency response.
- Develop test and learn strategies to Futureproof your media plans with roadmaps for continuous development.
- Influence and Negotiation:
- Carry out mid-level negotiations and work with the Media Associate Director on higher budget trading.
- Ensure each negotiation is carried out with a detailed plan of action including what-if scenarios.
- Understand the financial impact of key decisions and how they drive the underlying numbers.
- Media Tools:
- Demonstrate confidence and ability to teach and use the following tools to deliver effective media solutions:
- Proprietary: Growth Accelerator
- Industry: AdIntel, TGI, Adwanted, DDS, Prisma, SAP
- Desktop Research Tools: Mintel, Warc, Statista, Euromonitor, Foresight Factory, Google Trends, etc.
- Generate Solutions for the Client:
- Work with and assist the Media Account Director and Associate Director in the development of media strategy through all phases.
- Manage client budgets for effective financial management and build strong relationships at appropriate client/vendor.
- Strong media owner brief writing skills, distilling all of the relevant strategic insight to allow the most effective idea generation.
- Ability to involve strategy in the continuous improvement of creative media input.
- Integrate Across McCann Worldgroup:
- Help manage and coordinate integrated campaigns.
- Have a growth mindset and spot opportunities for improvement to process.
Minimum Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience being client-facing and presenting to clients
- Strong understanding of all media channels and how they work together to form solutions for clients
- An eye for spotting growth opportunities within a client
- Experience managing client budgets and the financial impact on key decisions.
