About Us... Ghosts. A swimming pool. Cats named Rolo and Biscuit. At McCann Manchester, it’s fair to say we’re a little different. Here the people make the agency, they are what makes our work so unique. That’s why we’re on the look-out for the people who will fit best. We’re a creative agency spread across eight acres of countryside in Cheshire, and - the rumours are true - we also have a pub, bistro and gym all on-site. McCann Manchester is a big family - the largest integrated agency in the UK in fact.
The Role … We’re building a lean, inventive, and impact-led tech innovation team at the heart of McCann’s Manchester Centre of Excellence. This team sits within a global creative network and supports both local and international clients through emerging technologies, smart production, and hands-on experimentation. We’re part R&D lab, part production accelerator, and part chaos-tamer. As our Project Manager, you'll be the calm at the centre. You’ll keep things moving, clear obstacles, and help the team stay focused. You’ll own the backlog, drive delivery rhythm, triage new requests, and keep the business updated on the value we’re delivering. You won’t be building things yourself, but you’ll be right in the mix, helping steer our technologists, creatives, and stakeholders toward impactful outcomes. Some of our backlog will be defined internally through workshops and research, but we also work closely with the global innovation team, who will feed in priorities and cross-market initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
- Own and manage the innovation team’s backlog, including both project and research workstreams
- Lead and adapt Agile-inspired rituals: standups, reviews, intake triage, and planning sessions
- Triage new work coming in to the team, score it with the team, and maintain prioritisation discipline
- Help keep creative technologists focused and unblocked, with visibility on timelines and dependencies
- Document approaches, workflows, and outcomes as part of a shared knowledge base
- Support creation of case studies and internal write-ups when projects are completed
- Coordinate with Tech Ops, IT, and Dev teams on tooling, access, and technical needs
- Maintain simple dashboards or trackers to communicate progress and demonstrate value
- Join in our weekly Show and Tell session, where we share interesting tools, trends, and experiments
- Contribute to the evolution of our working practices as the team scales
- Manage Kanban board operations and cadence including bi-weekly refinement, monthly showcases, and quarterly retrospectives
- Own the request routing process and help evolve it to reduce leadership bottlenecks
- Track team contributions against defined success metrics and support reporting
As Project Manager You’ll Bring…
The successful candidate will have a solid background in project or delivery management. Must have:
- Experience in project or delivery management, ideally in hybrid tech-creative environments
- Confidence working in Agile environments, even when the process needs adapting
- Initiative in chasing information, clarifying expectations, and removing blockers
- Strong communication skills across disciplines, from engineers to creatives to leadership
- Familiarity with backlog and collaboration tools
- A clear, structured mindset that helps others stay organised and deliver effectively
- A willingness to document and share the story of the work we do
As Project Manager You’ll Have Access To…
- A competitive financial and benefits package and a culture ideally suited to those who enjoy pursuing personal career development.
- A seat at the table in shaping an ambitious innovation function at McCann
- A collaborative, curious team that values new ideas and continuous learning
- Exposure to real world applications of AI, automation, and creative tech
- Exposure to new tools, techniques, and technologies as they emerge
- The opportunity to work within the largest integrated agency in the UK, in stunning surroundings, with specialist departments including, animation, video production, planning, digital creative and development and social media.
- An outstanding working environment that really is hard to beat. Based on an 8 acre site the four main buildings form a campus that includes a subsidised Bistro, free car parking, free access to an onsite gym and an outdoor heated pool (for when the weather gets warmer!).
The Truth…
This isn’t a box-ticking PM role. Some of what we do will be experimental, some of it will be messy! BUT the outcomes will be meaningful, and you’ll help us make things happen. If you like structure but can thrive without a rulebook, this might just be your sweet spot.
