Responsibilities
ABOUT THE ROLE: While working as part of a team within the Packing department, the Machine Operator operates packing and weighing machines to Company standards of hygiene, quality and safety. Key tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Understands the weighers to ensure correct operation in the absence of the weigher operator, ensuring efficient operation of weighers to set standards, and informs the Engineering Charge Hand of any problems
- Checks and sets up Packing machines to standard settings, according to product pack programs, loading the correct poly into the machines as instructed by the Senior Operator, according to production requirements
- Carries out maintenance and service inspections of machines, rectifying minor mechanical or electrical faults and informing the Area Shift Manager and Engineers where necessary
- Carries out regular checks of metal detectors using test pieces to ensure correct operation and report faults to QA and Engineers/Packing Area Shift Manager, filling in required company documentation
- Continuously monitors for faulty seals, completing seal checks and taking corrective action if needed including servicing sealing mechanisms at stated times with production programme
- Has a good working knowledge of the blueprints, able to assist blueprint operators and Senior Operators in ensuring the efficient running of the autopacking lines
- Cleans Packing Machines and surrounding area ensuring free flow of product and correct standards of safety and hygiene
- Changes data code and logo tapes, checking position and clarity on the bag and rectifying any faults to suit production requirements

Hours
What hours will I work? The shift pattern is 2 days 7am-7pm, 1 day off, 2 nights 7pm-7am followed by 3 days off.
Location
Where you’ll work? You’ll be based at our Whittlesey plant in Peterborough. If you’ve spotted our three wind turbines, then you’ll know where we are! With about 350 employees on site, we’re one of our largest plants across the GB business. Our Whittlesey plant is where we make our famous French Fries as well as our chilled products, such as our Shake Shake Fries.
