About the role:

We currently have an opportunity for a Casual Security Officer to join our Timaru team. As the first point of contact for employees, contractors, visitors, and delivery drivers entering our 24/7 manufacturing site, you'll play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment. This role exists to provide coverage for planned and unplanned leave within our Security team, as well as additional support during busy operational periods, including our peak potato harvest season. Please note this is a genuine casual position with no guaranteed hours or regular rostered shifts. Shifts are offered based on operational requirements and leave coverage needs.

Successful candidates must be available to work both:

  • 12-hour day shifts (7:00am - 7:00pm)
  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00pm - 7:00am)

Full training will be provided, including training on our systems, processes, and site requirements.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Control the entry and exit of employees, contractors, visitors, and delivery vehicles at our 24/7 operational site.
  • Provide professional, courteous, and customer-focused security services at the site's main entrance.
  • Ensure compliance with site security procedures and company policies.
  • Administer site access systems, including the Cardax ID card system.
  • Support weighbridge operations and associated administration.
  • Assist with visitor management, contractor requirements, and staff sales.
  • Build positive relationships with employees, visitors, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Support a safe, secure, and efficient working environment across the site.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • A strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage professionally with employees, contractors, visitors, delivery drivers, and other external stakeholders.
  • A customer-focused approach and the ability to provide a positive first impression of McCain.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Sound computer literacy, including confidence using software such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • A willingness to learn new systems and processes.
  • Availability to work both 12-hour day and night shifts as required.
  • Previous security experience is preferred but not essential.
