The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Ensure all engineering tasks on the assigned lines/equipment are carried out and recorded on time and in a safe manner, whether electrical or mechanical in nature.
  • Produce, and action, T-cards for all jobs to be planned/carried out on the assigned lines.
  • As part of the line crew, carry out all production tasks required on the assigned line.
  • Effective communication within own and across shifts regarding technical status of the assigned line/equipment.
  • Ensure lines are left in a fully functioning state for the next shift to take over, and carry out an effective shift handover with shift reports. Maintain the end-of line engineering downtime record sheets.
  • Maintain change-parts shadow boards to support OEE levels on assigned line/equipment.
  • Properly record all parts used for maintenance and repair, booking out against line/equipment.
  • Interface with the maintenance planner and stores personnel for the planning & provision of spares, materials for equipment.
  • Liaise with Engineering Team Manager for workload planning and technical support.
  • Ensure that all downtime is recorded correctly in the appropriate system (SAP).
  • Identify and carry out Continuous Improvement C.I. activities in conjunction with line production colleagues, and create T-Cards to cover these.
  • Carry out changeover activities in conjunction with production colleagues, including contribution to SMED programmes and other lean activities.
  • Support/guide (Senior-) Operators in the performing of cleaning schedules.
  • Perform preventive maintenance schedules and tasks including lubrication, overhaul of spare modules, and planned downtime activity (in association with the maintenance team), using T-Card & Pirana CMMS system to record actions and to generate follow-up works as needed.
  • Help identify and adhere to standard settings for all.
  • Contribute to, and where appropriate own, improvement/replacement projects.
  • Provide technical training for production colleagues and engineering apprentices on assigned equipment.
  • Self-training to maintain skill and knowledge base, and build towards Electrician Plus skill-set, sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Ensure that housekeeping standards are maintained and improved.
  • Ensure that legal compliances are maintained for COMAH, ATEX/DSEAR and other areas, including performing level control proof-testing procedures.
  • Have responsibility within Emergency Evacuation Plan to carry out the Engineering Investigation Team Role, presenting themselves in an emergency to fulfil these duties and also taking steps to make sure they fully understand their duties (e.g. attending practice sessions, performing weekly fire alarm testing).
  • Have a working knowledge of site fire alarm systems and emergency shutdown and isolation procedures.
  • Comply with Permit To Work systems, Isolation Procedures and all other HSE Systems.

Technical Competencies/Qualifications Required:

  • Engineering skills obtained by time served apprenticeship or equivalent (NVQ Level 3).
  • Plus skill set is an additional Cross-trade NVQ Level 3 bolt-on to core role.
  • Multi skilled with proven basic electrical competency.
  • Continuous improvement and root cause analysis skills.
  • Literate and numerate (GCSE level English and Maths or equivalent desirable).
  • Ability to interpret documentation in English Language.
  • Experience in food FMCG or equivalent process industry.
  • Familiar with packaging lines, drives, conveyors, rotating machinery, pumping equipment and valves.
  • Familiar with pneumatically and hydraulically controlled systems.
  • Competent in safe working procedures.
