McBains has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Management professional to join our vibrant Manchester based Project Management team. Ideally, the candidate will have a minimum of 8+ years’ experience, be self‑motivated and confident in a client facing role managing multiple projects and clients within the government sector. Extensive pre‑ and post‑contract experience is required, as well as knowledge and experience of working with government bodies. Some regional Northwest travel may be required as part of this. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in the mentoring of colleagues, work with graduates and trainees, and contribute to our established APC training programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Day‑to‑day delivery of projects
- Lead end‑to‑end project management for multiple projects ensuring successful delivery within time, budget and quality parameters
- Positively engaging with Clients and developing, growing and maintaining Client relationships
- Change Management assessment, tracking and reporting
- Identification and management of risk, including effective mitigation strategies
- Compliance with safety, health, environmental regulations and government required governance
- Liaising with the client, contractors, and designers, where appropriate
- Attending and chairing meetings
- Implement and oversee effective project governance, processes and systems throughout the lifecycle of the project in line with the overall programme requirements
- Mentor and guide project managers and assistant project managers to foster their professional development
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Relevant degree, construction related
- 8+ years’ experience
- Professional qualified membership, RICS / APM/MCIOB
- Hands‑on, standalone experience in running projects
- Excellent verbal, numerical and report/proposal writing skills
- Excellent people skills and communicator, both with client teams and team based
- Commercially astute with good negotiation skills
- Flexible and can work to deadlines
- Ability to successfully manage and prioritise multiple projects and different stages of delivery
- Be conversant in large project delivery (up to £50m)
- Experience of working on a fast paced programme of projects
- Understanding and scrutinising of contractor’s construction programmes and design proposals
- NEC and JCT experience
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary organisation
- Assisting in the development of new business opportunities with existing and new clients
- Identifying and acting upon cross‑selling opportunities
- Microsoft office proficiency
