Reporting to the Head of SHE, the SHE Advisor will be responsible for the operational implementation of SHE policy and procedures. Assist in developing, implementing, and reviewing health and safety policies, procedures, and documentation to meet legislative requirements and industry standards.
Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments, identifying hazards and recommending control measures to mitigate risks effectively. Provide advice and support to managers, supervisors, and employees on health and safety matters, promoting safe work practices and emergency procedures. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Assist in the development and delivery of health and safety training programs, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns to promote a culture of safety. Maintain accurate records of health and safety-related activities, including incident reports and inspection findings. Stay updated on changes to health and safety legislation and best practices, communicating relevant information to stakeholders.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including HR, Senior Managers and Supply Chain, to foster positive relationships and promote a proactive approach to health and safety. Participate in health and safety meetings, committees and working groups, representing the health and safety interests of the organisation. Assist in preparing health and safety reports and presentations for management and regulatory authorities as required.
Provide advice, guidance and support to site and factory management, staff and the supply chain to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of health and safety systems. Undertake internal audits of the health and safety system, ensuring actions are closed out by relevant stakeholders. Assist Head of SHE to develop SHE Systems including environmental aspects and QA inspection formats.
Conduct SHE site and factory inspections and audits, developing action plans and ensuring closure of actions. Develop, administer and maintain the various SHE Databases which are critical in recording performance of the company. Manage the waste management process, capturing, analysing and reporting data. Prepare safety alerts and develop appropriate toolbox talks for factory and site operatives.
Investigate and record incidents, accidents, near misses, complaints and cases of ill health. Maintain an index of all hazardous substances used on company facilities/sites/depots, including data sheets and COSHH assessments. Collaborate with Contracts teams to achieve the best results for Considerate Constructors Scheme audits. Promote and ensure a safe working environment.
Work with the wider McAvoy Team to effectively represent and grow the business and contribute to the culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Carry out other duties that are consistent with the job holderβs knowledge and skills and are necessary for the satisfactory completion of contracts and to assist the company in achieving its goals and objectives.

Person Specification
- Must be able to demonstrate experience in H&S, EMS and QMS processes and procedures within the construction and/or manufacturing industry.
- Possess as a minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills in order to positively engage with employees at all levels.
- Effective presentation and training skills with the ability to translate legislation and procedures into everyday language.
- Must be able/willing to travel to GB.
- Demonstrate knowledge and of experience of BREAM and Considerate Constructors Scheme.
- Environmental Management and Construction related qualification.
- Experience in Safety Management.
- ISO Management System experience.
