Reporting to the Commercial Manager, as Senior Quantity Surveyor you will work closely with the Commercial Department and the Project Managers taking the lead with the financial, commercial and contractual management of projects from post tender hand over through to final account close out of the project.
Main Responsibilities:
- Manage the subcontract procurement process β preparation of tender packages, tender reconciliations/recommendations and subcontract documents.
- Work with the project team, including the design consultants to ensure all information has been reviewed and is suitable for tendering subcontractor packages, as well as exploring all value engineering options to bring best value to the project.
- Assume responsibility for the management of all project costs in adherence with the internal budget targets.
- Manage the preparation and negotiations of all weekly / monthly project interim and final accounts.
- Measurement from drawings (and on site where required) to prepare, negotiate, and agree subcontractor and client variations.
- Produce monthly CVR reports for each project, for agreement by the Commercial Manager and Commercial Director, including uploading information to online reporting systems.
- Ongoing analysis of project costs to feedback to the Commercial Manager on a regular basis.
- Take the lead role in ensuring that commercial matters are properly addressed and considered at all project meetings, preparing and presenting any material as may be required.
- Ensure all client and client PQS commercial requests are dealt with in a comprehensive and timely manner.
- Take an active role in discussions with the wider project team in relation to the construction programme, ensuring all commercial matters are being considered and dealt with in a manner so as to reduce any impact on the delivery programme or to assist in cases where the programme is under pressure.
- Responsible for the preparation, negotiation and agreement of subcontractor and client applications/variations/final accounts.
- Manage and grow the supply chain involved in your project, taking an active role in the recruitment of new supply chain members and ensuring that those good suppliers/subcontractors remain attracted to our work.
- Prepare and keep the project cashflow up to date.
- Manage the subcontractor and client payment processes, ensuring that all applications are assessed and processed in a timely and fair manner.
- Draft and ensure any contractual notifications are issued in a timely manner and in accordance of the contract to subcontractors and/or client.
- Management and mentorship of any student, graduate or assistant surveyors.
- Any other duties as required by management.
Education / Experience:
- A Degree / HND in Quantity Surveying or other relevant discipline preferred.
- A minimum of 5 yearβs (postgraduate) relevant experience preferably gained with a Design & Build Main Contractor.
- A detailed understanding of the commercial aspects of the construction industry and JCT D&B contracts.
- Highly motivated, driven with ability to work individually or part of a team.
- Able to work effectively in a team environment.
- IT literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and AutoCAD.
- Flexible and willing to travel to the UK on a weekly basis to liaise and engage with site teams, clients and subcontractors.
- Candidates should have the appropriate work permit or the right to work in the UK.
