We are currently looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join our Waste Treatment plant near Knaresborough. The mechanical fitter shall support the mechanical maintenance team and the lead mechanical engineer in maintaining all aspects of mechanical plant, services, and equipment. As a mechanical fitter you will assist with planned preventative maintenance tasks, rectifying problems on mechanical assets and in the effective delivery of the planned outages whilst upholding the highest standard of health, safety, and quality.

The working hours for this role are as follows: 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday.

Key responsibilities:
  • Rectify problems on mechanical assets such as conveyor belts, pumps, gearboxes, valves and cranes.
  • Carry out fabrication work and general workshop duties.
  • Be responsible for PPM and reactive maintenance work, ensuring the highest standards are set and maintained.
  • Assist with and actively participate in planned outages.
  • Operate workshop machinery, fabrication, and refurbishment.
  • Communicate problems and concerns promptly through line management ensuring quick resolution.
  • Assist in delivering Maintenance Team KPIs.
  • Effectively use the site CMMS system.
  • Participate in team briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure full compliance with appropriate health, safety, quality and environmental standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Work safely and efficiently to the site safety rules, under a safe system of work.
  • Report any accidents, incidents and near misses.
The Person Qualifications:
  • Time Served Mechanical Technical Apprenticeship.
  • Level 3 NVQ3/ BTEC Maintenance Engineering CSE/GCSE equivalent.
  • IOSH Managing Safely - Desirable.
Skills/Experience:
  • Proven knowledge/experience working on the following aspects of mechanical systems: conveyor belts, valves, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, fabrication.
  • Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings/documents.
  • Experience/knowledge of safe systems of work including permit to work, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Ability to carry out planned preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to fault-find and repair mechanical assets.
  • Good communication.
  • Experience writing risk assessments and method statements.
