MC Technical Recruitment is currently recruiting for a Commissioning Engineer to join an international technology business specialising in renewable gas solutions. This role will focus on the commissioning, start-up and optimisation of advanced biomethane upgrading and CO2 liquefaction systems across global projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on cutting-edge membrane upgrading technology and NH3 refrigeration systems, supporting the delivery of highly advanced process installations worldwide.
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Carrying out commissioning and start-up activities on renewable gas installations globally
- Performing cold and hot commissioning, including system verification and readiness checks
- Starting up and optimising biomethane upgrading and CO2 liquefaction systems
- Supporting the performance optimisation of NH3 refrigeration processes
- Executing functional testing and site acceptance (SAT) procedures
- Analysing process performance, trends and operational data to improve plant efficiency
- Troubleshooting process, mechanical, electrical and automation-related issues
- Supporting PLC/HMI commissioning, alarms analysis and control systems diagnostics
- Assisting with instrumentation calibration and verification
- Delivering operator training and supporting customer handovers
- Providing on-site technical support during initial operational phases
- Other duties as required
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A qualification in process, mechanical, refrigeration, automation or chemical engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5 years' commissioning experience within industrial/process environments
- Strong experience with industrial refrigeration systems, ideally NH3
- Solid understanding of process engineering and system optimisation
- Proven ability to troubleshoot PLC/HMI and automation systems
- Experience working with compressors, refrigeration cycles and process systems
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings and technical documentation
Highly desirable:
- Siemens S7 / TIA Portal knowledge
- F-Gas, NH3, ATEX or similar certifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- A structured and solution-focused approach
- Excellent communication and customer-facing abilities
- The ability to remain calm under pressure
- A flexible approach with willingness to travel internationally (50–80%)
