Electrical & Instrumentation Technician – Gas Storage

MC Technical Recruitment are recruiting for an Instrumentation Technician to work at one of the largest underground gas storage facilities in the UK. This site provides strategic gas storage services that contribute to balancing gas supply and demand within the national gas transmission system. The Instrument Technician will form part of the maintenance team and will be responsible for conducting planned and reactive maintenance work on the site's instrumentation and electrical systems to ensure maximum plant availability and minimum downtime.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, responsibilities will include:
- Fault finding, repair work and planned and unplanned maintenance on all instrumentation systems and electrical assets to maximise plant availability. This includes pressure, level, temperature and flow sensors, control systems and some electrical equipment such as motors and variable speed drives.
- Carrying out equipment isolations to permit requirements to ensure plant is safe to perform maintenance on.
- Assisting during the installation and commissioning of new plant equipment.
- Work with the site engineering team on plant improvement projects and upgrades.
- Liaising and supervising site contractors when required.
- Assisting during site shutdowns when required.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the site CMMS.
- Other duties as required.
This role is Monday to Friday, 7.30am – 4.30pm.
The ideal candidate will have:
- An apprenticeship in electrical/instrumentation engineering or similar.
- A relevant engineering qualification at HNC/ONC/NVQ level or similar.
- At least 5+ years of maintenance experience across control and instrumentation maintenance in a relevant engineering environment – power plant, refinery, paper mill, steel works, chemical site etc.
- Experience using CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems).
- Knowledge of relevant legislation e.g., health and safety and environmental etc.
