MC Technical Recruitment is currently looking to recruit a Plant Manager on behalf of a UK-based anaerobic digestion (AD) operations and maintenance specialist, to be based at their site in Haddington. This role will involve taking full responsibility for the daily operation and maintenance of a biogas plant. This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role — you'll be the senior person on-site, managing a small operational team while staying close to the process itself, and reporting directly to senior management. The plant operates 24/7, so some out-of-hours and shift work will be required.
As a Plant Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Managing and developing a small team of plant operators and technicians, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Directing and supervising maintenance contractors on-site
- Running regular safety training to maintain compliance with health and safety regulations
- Acting as the senior on-site presence, available for hands-on operational work when required
- Monitoring and optimising process conditions to maximise biogas production and energy output while maintaining system integrity
- Coordinating maintenance activities, including mechanical repairs, to minimise downtime
- Overseeing inventory of equipment parts and supplies needed for ongoing plant operation and maintenance
- Developing and maintaining plant procedures, operating manuals, and site documentation
- Working with computer-controlled (SCADA) plant systems to manage day-to-day operations
- Other duties as required
To be considered for this role you should have:
- A relevant technical qualification — ideally degree-level in chemical or mechanical engineering, or chemistry
- Experience managing or supervising process plant operations in a process industry or utility environment
- Strong mechanical knowledge to understand complex equipment systems and support troubleshooting
- Comfortable working with computer-controlled (SCADA) plant systems
- Strong relationship-building skills — with contractors, clients, and regulators alike
- Solid understanding of workplace Health
