Our clients are seeking a commercially astute Finance Director to lead and own the finance function across a multi-entity software group. The group has a strong track record of recent acquisitions and is likely to be highly acquisitive in the future.
This is a broad, hands-on role for a candidate who is comfortable shaping strategy, managing commercial contracts and renewals, managing banking relationships, and running day-to-day operations of the finance function with the support of a small finance team. Software-sector and Xero experience are advantageous.
The role requires someone adaptable who can switch between competing demands in a fast-paced, dynamic, and entrepreneurial environment. A core responsibility is integrating newly acquired businesses into the existing group, harmonising processes and controls, and building a single, consolidated view across all entities.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Operations: Manage the overall finance function across multiple legal entities, maintaining books and records in Xero.
Reporting: Prepare and present monthly management accounts and financial reports to the Board (performance against budget, cash flow, forecasts, and key commercial metrics) with commentary on risks, opportunities, and financial implications of acquisitions.
Audit: Manage the year-end audit process, including liaising with auditors and external advisers.
Payroll: Oversee monthly payroll, working with and managing the outsourced payroll provider.
Renewals & Contracting: Manage customer renewals end-to-end, resolve commercial queries, and manage contracting issues in collaboration with the Chief Executive.
Cash Flow & Treasury: Own and manage group cash flow, including forecasting, liquidity planning, bank payments, and supplier payments/AP cycle.
Banking: Manage banking relationships with lenders, including reporting and covenant compliance.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications: Qualified accountant (ACA) or equivalent qualified-by-experience track record.
Sector Experience: Proven experience leading a finance function within a software, SaaS, or technology business.
Technical Skills: Strong, hands-on Xero expertise; confident managing multi-entity accounting and consolidations.
Process Experience: Experience managing year-end audits and familiarity with ISO audit processes.
Commercial Expertise: Sound understanding of revenue recognition and recurring-revenue/renewals models; comfortable engaging with customers and lenders.
Financial Management: Strong cash flow management and treasury capability.
