We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven Environmental Modeller to join our Synthetic Environment team. With opportunities to work with a dedicated team of engineers to help your own career development, this role is one not to be missed!
Salary: Circa £55,000
Dynamic (hybrid) working: Typically, 3-4 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo SC clearance.

The opportunity:
An exciting opportunity to join a new and upcoming team within the RF Seekers and Datalinks directorate as a 3D modelling and synthetic environment engineer. The synthetic environment team are using innovative ways to develop synthetic environments through video games technologies and upcoming future technologies. Models and synthetic environments will be developed to provide visualisation, training, simulation, demonstrations, verification & validation.
We are looking for a passionate candidate with an eye for detail and technical ability for synthetic environment design using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data within terrain generation software tools. As a team we are responsible for supporting MBDA's complex weapon programmes, working with our customers and suppliers towards developing and integrating the next generation RF missile seekers. In order to succeed, we require a high fidelity test & modelling environment; this provides our seeker and missile teams with all the representative real-world data they need to undertake the product design, development and acceptance process.
What we're looking for from you:
We are looking for a passionate individual who has a keen eye for detail, to support MBDA in developing virtual synthetic environments. Candidates will be producing 3D models and synthetic environments both geo-typical and geo-specific. We're looking for you to have an ability to work autonomously within a multi-skilled team with a good understanding and commitment to achieving project goals. You should also be able to perform technical investigations, provide problem assessments, and propose design solutions within a culture of innovative thinking.
You will be responsible for:
- Creating Geo-Typical and Geo-Specific locations within 3D modelling tools and Terrain Generation software
- Create complex materials to be used with RF scenarios
- Create, modify and review 3D models
- Test, validate and verify models are suitable for RF scenarios
- Exploring future technologies to support synthetic environment development
Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience using GIS data and GIS software
- 3D modelling skills using Blender, 3D Studio Max
- Experience working with games engines, such as Unreal Engine
- A passion to develop 3D environments and models
- Good communication skills with the ability to produce high quality written reports and presentations to internal and external customers.
- Participate in or lead design reviews for all stages of concept development to the assessment of design maturity.
Desirable Experience:
- Working within a Defence Environment
- Creating RF materials
- Experience in RF and signal processing
- Experience developing terrains using real world GIS data
- Working with Video games engines, such as Unreal Engine
- Experience working within video games design
