Lead the development and delivery into service for Sea Ceptor maritime platform equipment.
Salary: Up to £71,000 depending on experience
Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3 - 4 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity: The Sea Ceptor programme is entering a new phase of development, with new export customers and changes to the system design including integration with the Mk41 launcher, and expected contracts to develop dual-layer and tri-layer capabilities with new variants of the CAMM munition. The MLU/MLR programme is also live with UK MOD to provide updates to the Royal Navy's capability.
The Head of Subsystems role is a direct report to the chief engineer, and is responsible for the development and delivery into service of major platform subsystem equipment:
- Command and Control: provides the functionality for the user to operate the weapon system
- System Control Equipment: high-integrity control of the weapon system
- Launch Management System: interface to the launcher and munitions
- Platform Datalink: secure communication with munitions in flight
- Maintainer Local Terminal: weapon system configuration, software update, log retrieval and data analysis.
The Head of Subsystems is accountable for:
- Delivery of the subsystem Certificates of Design, directing the Design Authorities for these subsystems to ensure delivery on time/cost/quality.
- Lead the subsystem Design Authorities and create the environment for them to deliver on time/cost quality across multiple concurrent development programmes.
- Managing mid-life update and obsolescence programmes as well as support to in-service product queries.
- Accountability for all Subsystem Safety activities, and responsible for bringing cohesion across all subsystems that feed into these deliverables.
- Provide guidance and oversight for new business bids for the subsystems task group.
The Sea Ceptor Head of Subsystems needs to ensure that the Sea Ceptor programme's needs are met by the subsystem Product Lines that deliver common components for Sea Ceptor and other air defence programmes. Working alongside counterparts in Sea Viper and Land Ceptor, you will:
- Ensure subsystem product lines have product evolution plans that meet the needs of the Sea Ceptor.
- Find opportunities for convergence and coherence across the programmes and product lines that benefit MBDA through reduced time and cost while ensuring a balance between delivery and future evolution.
What we're looking for from you:
- Experience in delivering complex work packages, risk and opportunity management.
- Ability to build strong relationships with all teams delivering Sea Ceptor and demonstrate collaborative leadership to overcome challenges.
- Strategic thinking to manage evolution of the product across multiple contracts and influence across subsystem product lines.
- Excellent management of engineering Stakeholders - systems design, electronics engineering, software engineering, test equipment.
- Experience in development and certification.
- Strong communication skills and leadership.
- Experience in development of systems with complex interfaces and functionality (software and/or electronics).
