This programme looks to extend MBSE principles to the full domain of engineering activities through use of digital artefacts for communication. We also have a number of ongoing activities looking to exploit digital technologies in the systems engineering context.

This exciting role will be responsible for supporting continuing MBSE evolution, developing and deploying MBE onto UK programmes, and leading on packages for digital technology exploitation in the systems engineering context.

The opportunity: The role is situated within the Systems Engineering and Design Capability (SE&DC) UK department, within the Systems Design - Emerging Portfolio and Capability function. This department provides vital Systems Engineering and Design best practices, including training, coaching, and project support, to various UK projects.

The successful applicant's individual responsibilities will encompass:

  • Driving the continued advancement of MBSE and facilitating deployment of these refined practices within UK projects.
  • Contributing to E2E MBE initiatives, exploring the use of modelling to bridge the collaboration gap between systems and disciplines such as Systems Analysis, Speciality Engineering, SW model-Driven Design, MCAD, ECAD, etc. This will extend to overseeing deployment of these MBE capabilities within projects.
  • Taking the lead in initiatives focused on leveraging generative AI within the systems context, including the application of commercial productivity tools, integrating AI into specialist Systems Engineering toolkits, and exploitation of MBDA's growing proficiency in on-site LLMs. This role will oversee the development of these capabilities and their ultimate deployment on various projects.
  • Steering initiatives related to engineering data modelling, management, governance, and analytics. Overseeing the deployment of these capabilities and their practical utilisation on projects is a key aspect of this role.
  • Leading the charge in generating and documenting best-practice guidance related to the abovementioned emerging practices within MBDA's engineering guidance repository.
  • Executing SE&DC's core activities, which involve delivering education, training, and consultancy-style support to key national and international project teams and business sectors.
  • Staying abreast of relevant technical domains and continuously enhancing skills and capabilities to effectively support projects.

What we're looking for from you: We are seeking a versatile and seasoned systems engineer who is eager to take on a demanding and pivotal leadership role in driving transformation. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A deep and extensive understanding of current Systems Engineering methodologies and their practical applications.
  • Recent involvement in projects implementing MBSE is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in spearheading digital engineering transformations within systems engineering contexts is highly advantageous. If this experience is lacking, we seek someone with a genuine passion to develop expertise in digital engineering concepts, technologies, and Model-Based Engineering practices.
  • A track record of deploying fresh capabilities within large engineering enterprises, navigating associated hurdles is highly sought after.
  • Most importantly, the capacity to influence seasoned and cross-disciplinary teams.
  • A holistic and strategic approach to systems thinking.
  • Exceptional communication skills and an aptitude for problem solving are non-negotiable.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent in a fitting discipline is the ideal academic background.
