Overview
In this role you lead a software team within MBDA's Embedded Software Department to deliver a naval weapon system software solution. You guide architecture and design to meet safety, security and reliability requirements across the development lifecycle. You work cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders to plan, execute and optimize delivery. This hands-on leadership position combines technical depth with team oversight to drive critical, high-assurance software engineering outcomes. You will contribute to MBDA's mission of advancing defence capabilities while shaping the technical pathway for your team.

Responsibilities
- Provide strong technical leadership to ensure software architecture and design meet safety, security, and reliability requirements before implementation
- Lead and mentor a team of software developers, fostering collaboration and productivity
- Collaborate with the Software Project Leader and stakeholders to define requirements, timelines, and deliverables; ensure tasks and deadlines are met
- Identify and communicate technical risks and debt to the Software Project Leader
- Facilitate effective collaboration and knowledge-sharing across cross-functional teams
- Ensure adherence to software development best practices, QA processes, and coding standards; drive process improvements
- Suggest and implement quality improvements using data and metrics
Key requirements
- Embedded software development experience in C / C++ with knowledge of RTOS
- Experience in low-level software development, FreeRTOS, driver development; ARM Assembler beneficial
- Experience with Rhapsody UML or other model-driven development tools; able to develop/test to requirements and ICDs on host/target
- Experience with IBM Engineering Work Management / Rational Team Concert or similar
- Prior team leadership experience and ability to lead engineers to deliver to project timelines
- Problem-solving mindset with strong analytical and design abilities; capable of producing design documentation
