Salary: Circa £57,000 depending on experience
Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3-4 days per week on-site (Bolton)
Security Clearance: British Citizen. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:
As Mechanical Production Design Support Team Lead, you will be responsible for a high performing team of up to six engineers, with you and your team responsible for providing critical mechanical production design support across a wide range of projects. This is a key leadership role in a dynamic and fast paced environment where your technical expertise and ability to manage conflicting priorities will help shape your team's continued success.
You will guide the team in a rapidly evolving and high demand sector, where smart, adaptable solutions are key to success. This role offers the opportunity to be at the heart of leading a focused team, balancing stakeholder demands, while continually delivering high quality solutions on time and in budget. Your technical experience, leadership, and ability to project manage are the keys to success within this role. With a focus on continual improvement and team development, you will help forge strong cross-functional bonds and ensure that you and your team are empowered to deliver practical solutions that keep pace with an ever-growing demand.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and continue to develop a team of high performing mechanical engineers
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals
- Manage project timelines, priorities and resource allocation, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
- Develop processes with stakeholders to drive best practice
- Identify and remove blockers and foster team collaboration
- Provide regular feedback, career development support and team engagement activities
What we're looking for from you:
- Ideally Degree/HND/HNC qualified plus significant experience in Mechanical Design and Development, or Manufacturing Support.
- Experience in mechanical design development (the wider this experience the better), and preferably, (but not essential), in the defence or aerospace industry.
- High level of capability in the use of industry standard 3D CAD packages such as PTC CREO and interpretation of detailed drawings to BS8888 employing GD&T controls.
- The ability to write clear and concise engineering documentation, (including reports and investigation logs), and have good verbal communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Confidently undertake tolerance studies and analysis to ensure compliance with prime product.
- Worked in an environment employing development techniques such as FMEA, DFA, and DFM.
- Exposure in supporting manufacturing, resolving manufacturing issues, and supporting the transition of product into production as part of a multi-functional, multi-discipline team.
- Experience of scoping the tasks needed to resolve issues and able to manage conflicting priorities for you and your team.
- Experience in a technical leadership or team lead role would be advantageous.
