MBDA are looking for a capable Software Engineering Technical Team Lead to lead a mid-sized (8 currently) development team working on our new missile-system middleware solution.
Salary: Circa £55,000 - £67,000 depending on experience.
Hybrid working pattern: Where possible, we will seek to accommodate a blended approach to on-site and remote working. In this role, 3-4 days per week in the office as a minimum is required due to the secure classification of the work requiring regular secure network access.
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. Security Clearance (SC) is required to be obtained for this role, which is managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity: We’re a driven team with a passion for software and its successful deployment in battlespace Command and Control (C2) weapon systems. We work on technology that is at the forefront of European missile system design, delivering safe, secure, and reliable products to our customers.
Key duties:
- Manage Agile sprints, ceremonies, and backlog prioritisation, whilst developing software systems and processes to ensure smooth software delivery.
- Facilitate effective coordination among team members, ensuring tasks are assigned, and deadlines are met.
- Ensure the team follows software development best practices, quality assurance processes, and coding standards whilst identifying opportunities for process improvement and optimisation.
- Our products require Linux Operating System (OS) configuration, support and security solution maintenance, so experience of Linux would be beneficial for this position.
- Working across multiple applications on both land and maritime projects in the systems software department, this role allows for involvement in many of the most advanced missile systems in the world, across multiple warfare domains.
What we’re looking for from you:
- A passion for software engineering, with the ability to innovate and think critically to solve complex software problems with a willingness to develop software skillsets either through on the job, or formal training.
- Team leading experience would be beneficial, as this role involves a blend of both engineering and leading engineers to deliver to projects.
- Comfortable working with a team in a collaborative environment, communicating and contributing to design and implementation decisions, and supporting with integration.
- Build a strong working relationship with the Software Project Leader to aid team working.
- Experience with C or C++ (At least one of these is essential), Ada, and/or JavaScript, shell scripting languages with a solid background in software engineering.
- Experience writing and reviewing technical documentation, and providing regular progress updates and engineering demos.
