Senior Test Engineer – Manufacturing

Salary: Circa £44,500 depending on experience.

Working Conditions: Hybrid; 4 or 5 days on-site per week.

Security Clearance: British Citizen only; HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Test Engineering support to the manufacturing team, ensuring programme targets for time, cost and quality are met.
  • Support test strategy and implementation from initial concept through to production readiness review and release to operations.
  • Introduce and configure test facilities, ensuring proper configuration control and generating test specifications and operator instructions.
  • Test electrical/electronic sub-assemblies and circuit cards, diagnosing production test failures down to component level.
  • Collaborate with Operations, design teams and stakeholders to solve technical challenges and maintain Test Engineering governance.
  • Work with Test TXs and design engineers to implement project test strategy and influence design for testability.
  • Compile initial process flows (MTIFs) for new product in partnership with the Principal Engineer / MEM.
  • Create and maintain Manufacturing Test Requirement Specifications (MTRS) for production test equipment.
  • Support Process FMEA and ensure test mitigations are in place.
  • Initiate test fixture designs for new products.
  • Assist TED in compiling new test instructions.
  • Estimate testing time for new product and validate UPC/DTCR with BCF.
  • Support design engineers in functional and ESS testing of initial prototypes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC level qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject (HND/Degree preferred).
  • Experience in digital and analogue electronics manufacture and test.
  • Good understanding of electrical/electronic measurement and test principles, test equipment and fault diagnosis techniques for electro‑mechanical sub‑assemblies.
  • Experience with both manual and automated test equipment, preferably in a defence or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP and MES programs (e.g., SAP, MES) for recording test activities and generating non‑conformance reports.
  • Ability to plan and organise own work, prioritise tasks and deliver against project objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including generation of test specifications, operator instructions and technical reports.
  • Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • British Citizen; BPSS clearance required.
