This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Electrical Architect to join the MBDA Weapon System Equipment team and work to support the delivery of a range of product capabilities for the needs of domestic and emerging export customers. You’ll be working as part of a world‑class design team to sustain and develop our products, both in‑service and development: incorporating new ideas, functionality and technology to deliver to our customers.
Salary and Working Arrangement
- Salary: Up to £65,000 dependent on experience.
- Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2 to 3 days per week on‑site due to workload classification.
- Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply.
- All successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS) as part of the offer stage.

Responsibilities
- Develop and define the electrical architecture and requirements of the equipment for all areas of the Weapon System solution, supporting analysis and decomposition to the lower‑level sub‑system elements and managing all technical elements of the Electrical Power and Control Equipment.
- Customer requirements in the Land and Maritime Domains will be challenging you to deliver within the constraints of limited physical space and harsh operating environments.
- Through your regular interaction with stakeholders and customers, using your communication, influencing and leadership skills you will be developing the product development demands with the delivery team, whilst focusing on the overall product picture to enable the “On Time, On Cost, On Quality” of the technical solution.
- Maintaining an adaptable outlook in an ever‑changing, competitive and challenging working environment will be an advantage.
- Designing the initial electrical architecture for emergent and early lifecycle projects.
- Maintaining the electrical definition and requirements at later stages of the lifecycle, including production.
- Delivering the technical and certification documentation, including safety related certification and UKCA/CE declaration.
- Supporting the functional integration of the hardware within the wider sub‑system definition.
- Promoting the wider capability definition of electrical architects within MBDA.
- Providing certification and sign‑off expertise for electrical architecture in projects delivered internally and to external customers at all project lifecycle phases.
Qualifications & Experience
- The successful candidate will hold a qualification equivalent to or greater than a City & Guilds Level 3 award covering the requirements for Electrical Installations. Being educated to HND Level 4 (or an equivalent qualification) will be advantageous and with appropriate experience in electrical engineering.
- Electrical Installation Design (in areas other than Building Regulations Part P), covering Extra Low and Low Voltages, grounding/earthing, screening and bonding schemes.
- Certification of installations in accordance with wiring regulations (BS 7671 or equivalent) – specifically for mobile or transportable systems.
- Design of electro‑mechanical machinery and handling equipment in safety critical and complex electromagnetic environments.
- Platform and Vehicle based power supply, distribution and management (civil or military).
- Design and implementation of “Uninterruptable” power systems (desirable).
- Hands‑on experience with electrical installations, machinery, testing of electrical installations, testing of equipment(s) and trials work.
