Salary Circa £64,000 depending on experience. Dynamic (hybrid) working 4 to 5 days per week on-site due to workload classification.

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

The Real Time Actuation Software Group is tasked with the development and delivery of actuation software that is a key component of our products, deployed into missile programmes. This role will be a stepping stone for candidates who aspire to be a future Software Project Lead.

In the Actuation Software Group you will take ownership of the following:

  • Support Legacy Projects: Full lifecycle, as they arise, which may result in management of individuals or hands-on engagement.
  • R&D: Management of Actuation Group R&D activities.
  • Bids & Estimation: Engagement with Actuation Group for the generation of estimates and plans for future work.

As part of this role, we will look to develop your skill set as a potential SPL through training and mentoring. This role will also provide the opportunity for collaboration with System Engineers, algorithm-focused Servo Engineers, Product Verification (T and E) and Equipment Design Authority.

What we’re looking for from you:

A future leader in software (experienced or aspiring) focused on team leadership and delivering software. We are looking for a future Software Project Lead (SPL) who can build high-performing teams and create strong working relations with the multi-discipline project environments.

Working with these project environments includes financial & budget control, system design, electronic design, safety, security & quality.

Key requirements include:

  • Ability to manage a small team of software developers.
  • Experience of delivering safety-related projects and working to associated processes e.g. DO178C or equivalent.
  • Experience of Stakeholder Management with Stakeholders at various hierarchical levels in an organisation.
  • Understanding of the management of a software budget and have the confidence to control change to the requirements and costs, against an agreed estimate/budget.
  • Understanding the embedded software development process.
  • Basic project management skills to ensure good planning, delivery and cost control of software.
  • A good understanding of software and the software development lifecycle including configuration management tools and techniques, to be able to provide effective oversight.
  • The ability to understand requirements, design and verification and validation solutions so that you can produce accurate and cost-effective estimates of work to be undertaken.
