Bristol. In order to support continued growth within the Field Support team, an opportunity has arisen for an individual to take on a Functional leadership role within the Land Domain. While forming key relationships with team members, customers and international colleagues you will be exposed to a broad range of challenges and be responsible for maintaining an excellent level of service delivery to both our domestic and export customers.
Salary: Circa £65,000 depending on experience. Dynamic (hybrid) working 1-2 days per week on-site (or at deployed team locations) due to workload classification. Security Clearance: British Citizen Only.

- International and domestic travel: Supporting the teams in the UK and Poland but also being part of the international Field Support improvement community and working closely with colleagues from the UK, France and Italy.
The opportunity:
- Functional Management and Team Leadership: Responsible for up to 15 Field Support Staff currently deployed in the UK and in Poland, including management of performance, skills development and maintenance, daily administration & support. Monitor and improve safety of the team, ensuring all related processes and protocols are adhered to and drive a safety-first culture at all times. Support the growth of CSS business providing inputs to and generating estimates as required. Working closely with the MBDA Global mobility team on matters regarding overseas deployments and long-term domestic assignments. Provide inputs to regular reporting packs, support progress and objectives reviews. Maintain effective communication with the teams deployed both in the UK and in overseas, including regular face to face meetings and visits to work sites. Provide first point of escalation for the Land team and raise issues with the wider Field Support Leadership chain and stakeholders (both internal and external) as required. Manage high pressure situations where operational capability is critical and customer urgency is placed onto MBDA. Manage situations where MBDA's reputation is challenged and needs to be maintained/enhanced through delivery of prompt and efficient customer service. Seek to leverage new technologies, tools and opportunities to enhance the service delivered by the team and further exceed customer expectations.
- Proactive Skills & Competency Maintenance: Plan, implement and maintain the skills and competencies for the field support team across supported products. This includes management of existing product expertise held within the team mapped to defined (through existing business processes) level of competence. Team growth in depth of competence through a planned development programme. Maintenance of centrally held Skills and Competency Matrices while ensuring that FSR records are maintained to support future certification and recertification by CSS Stamp authority. Competency and knowledge growth within the team for new MBDA products to ensure a smooth transition into service. Breadth of competence across UK and other NATCO subsystems, (where design authority may sit outside of MBDA UK). Assurance that the team has access to tools and test equipment as enablers to best perform their roles.
- High Quality Service delivery: Responsible for the quality of service provided to MBDA customers during remote troubleshooting, visit scheduling and field support attendance including post action closeout: Ensure professionalism is enshrined in all engagements with the customer. Drive customer satisfaction and recommendation, through excellent customer feedback scores. Exceed customer expectations throughout the Field Support process. Promote and support use of new and emerging technologies in the delivery of MBDA support services. Generate and implement local improvement plans to drive efficiencies, quality improvements and/or staff development opportunities.
What we're looking for from you:
- Experience of managing a team of technicians or engineers in a defence or aerospace environment.
- Experience delivering technical and or logistical/operational support to customers.
- Understanding and experience of defence related products and support concepts.
- An understanding of the cultural issues and challenges involved in providing support to a global customer base.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders across all areas of the business and within the customer community.
- Experience working as part of a diverse contractor working party across many industry parties to resolve technical issues.
- Ability to work in a flexible manner, reacting to customer demands and the need to support the team at times outside of regular office hours (for example when deployed overseas in different time zones).
- A formal engineering background and/or qualifications is desirable but not essential for this role.
