Tool Design Team Lead
Responsible for leading a high‑performing team of up to six mechanical engineers to deliver and manage complex tooling design solutions across a wide range of projects. The role combines technical expertise with strong leadership to guide the team, nurture innovation, and ensure project success.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of high‑performing mechanical engineers
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals
- Manage project timelines, priorities and resource allocation, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
- Identify and remove blockers and foster team collaboration
- Provide regular feedback, career development support and team engagement activities
Qualifications
- Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with significant experience in mechanical design and development
- Strong 3‑D modelling experience and ability to assess model quality; experience with 3‑D annotations is an advantage
- Background in producing engineering drawings with high attention to detail
- Knowledge of BS8888, ISO 1101, ISO 5459, GD&T and related technical documentation standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational skills in a fast‑paced environment
- People‑management experience beneficial
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Circa £57,000, dependent on experience
- Annual paid leave: 25 days, with an additional day after 5, 10 and 15 years of service
