Responsibilities
- Business Winning – Key player in winning new contracts of medium to high complexity, supporting the full route to contract and protecting MBDA’s business interests, working in a multi‑functional team in the bidding process to generate proposals, review and draft contract terms, and support senior commercial staff on major new business campaigns.
- Negotiations – Gain acceptance and agreement on issues and amendments to ensure contractual compliance within agreed boundaries.
- Contract Management – Vital part of the delivery chain ensuring MBDA meets its promises to customers, including change management, problem solving and administration.
- Commercial Risk and Opportunity Management – Identify potential risks and opportunities associated with bids and contracts and work with various departments to develop mitigation strategies.
- Relationship Management – Build and maintain relationships with new and existing customers and industry partners, focusing on collaboration.
- Interface – Provide commercial advice to internal project teams and communicate with stakeholders at all levels, including reporting to senior management on portfolio progress.
- Represent the commercial team in progress reviews and customer meetings.
- Work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Day‑to‑day administration and maintenance of commercial information systems.
- Promote best practice and functional excellence.
- Provide supervisory guidance to more junior staff, including graduates and business apprentices.
Qualifications
- Advanced negotiation skills and interpersonal skills.
- Good process and change management.
- Experience of managing more complex, high‑value contracts.
- Effective team behaviours, influencing and team working skills.
- Experience in a broad range of commercial issues, including bidding and contract management throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Commercial understanding from customer to supplier perspective.
- Awareness and practical applicability of intellectual property and its protection.
- Good understanding of contract law and its applicability.
- Ability to draft or modify terms and conditions.
- Understanding liabilities and mitigating risk.
- Awareness of import and export restrictions and licensing requirements.
- Ability to understand and use pricing and costing models.
- Good knowledge of IT and business tools, including SAP.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: Circa £50,000 depending on experience.
- Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2–3 days per week on site.
- Security clearance: British Citizen or Dual UK national with British citizenship; all successful candidates will need to undergo BPSS checks.
- Company bonus: Up to £2,500 (based on company performance and will vary year to year).
- Pension: maximum total (employer and employee) contribution of up to 14%.
- Overtime: opportunity for paid overtime.
