The Senior Algorithm Engineer role in GCN (Guidance, Control, and Navigation) is a highly visible, strategic position working with a capable technical team. The role involves hands-on technical involvement, research, and strategy steering without line management duties.

Salary: Up to £65,000, depending on experience.

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 5 days per week on-site due to workload classification.

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. After offer, all successful candidates will need to undergo BPSS checks managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop expertise at both detailed Guidance & Control design levels and higher architectural levels, including rigorous system analysis and management of complexity.
  • Influence current and future design and testing of sophisticated missile Guidance & Control (G&C) systems, spanning specialist algorithms, real-time architecture, and complex equipment (RF & IR seekers, inertial sensors, actuators, propulsion, and interfaces to surface and air launch platforms).
  • Collaborate across departmental, directorate, and national boundaries and contribute to multiple programmes across their lifecycles—from early research and concept stages to full-scale development and guided flight trials.

What we’re looking for:

  • Theoretical knowledge and extensive experience in aerospace guidance, control and navigation specification, analysis, algorithm design & implementation, real-time architecture, and verification.
  • Ability to bound engineering problems and express design challenges as clear, unambiguous requirements/objectives.
  • Capability to manage complexity by identifying major drivers in large, interconnected systems.
  • Experience cross-verifying complex systems and models against underlying theory.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex or conceptually difficult ideas.
  • Competence in diagnosing abnormalities in engineering systems through physical inspection and computer modelling/simulation (Matlab & Simulink).
  • Ability to influence technically when other factors drive teams.
  • Interest in applications with control experience, preferably applied flight control; this is not essential.
