You'll be working within a state-of-the-art Materials Laboratory, providing practical support and complex solutions around laboratory analysis to support production for national and international projects. This role allows you to make a tangible impact on real-life challenges and offers opportunities for travel to support customers and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical support and develop solutions for laboratory analysis to assist production teams.
  • Prepare and analyze metallic and non-metallic samples, conduct microscopy and material failure analysis.
  • Use specialist analytical techniques such as SEM/EDX, FTIR & XRF.
  • Perform mechanical testing of materials and surface treatment and coating evaluations.
  • Apply and interpret relevant legislation including REACH and other environmental or health & safety standards.
  • Inspect un-populated printed circuit boards.
  • Contribute to daily activities of a proactive team of Materials Engineers, meeting challenging manufacturing deadlines.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and determine requirements from specifications and national test standards.
  • Maintain a laboratory environment in compliance with best practices and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Previous practical experience in sample preparation, microscopy, or analytical techniques for materials.
  • Experience with SEM/EDX, FTIR & XRF, mechanical testing, and surface treatments.
  • Knowledge of REACH and other environmental or health & safety legislation.
  • Experience inspecting un-populated printed circuit boards.
  • Equivalent of an HND or degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field; industrial/laboratory experience is acceptable.
  • Strong understanding of materials and their processes, and ability to assess performance under various environments.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and methods.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and their interpretation.
  • Ability to determine requirements from specifications and national test standards.

Working Pattern

This is a laboratory‑based role that supports a dynamic (hybrid) working pattern. We accommodate blended on‑site and remote working where possible.
