MBDA has a fantastic opportunity for an Interconnects Design Engineer to work within our growing Interconnects team designing bespoke electrical interconnects/cables suitable for the transmission of power, signal and data within and between subsystems in our products.

Dynamic (hybrid) working: We trust our people to agree, within their teams, where and when they can be most effective. Our Dynamic Working policy allows individuals flexibility around the hours they work and where they work. Typically for this role you will work 1 to 2 days per week on-site.

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity: To do this you will need to interpret sub-system requirements and, from these, generate electrical schematics and cable design definitions on Microsoft Visio & HarnWare work packages. You will need to be able to carry out investigations into a full range of cable problems and issues; developing and preparing solutions, either individually or as a member of a project team. The role also includes support to manufacturing in order to resolve any manufacturing issues, as well as supporting functional and environmental product trials. This role provides a wide scope of tasks and a unique opportunity to broaden technically within a growing company and high capability design teams. Exposure to complex and technologically advanced projects and products provides a stimulating experience. What we're looking for from you:

  • Experience in the use of Visio and related products (Harnware).
  • A proven ability to define, deploy, and refine processes and best practices within Visio and Harnware - including; electrical topology, wiring schematics and 2D manufacturing drawing processes and standards.
  • Thorough understanding of product data management and change management within Windchill or similar.
  • The ability to design cable assemblies based upon electrical constraints such as current, screening, signal types, volt drop, EMC and environmental requirements.
  • An appreciation of cable assembly production/process engineering.
