Mechanical Engineering is excited to offer multiple opportunities for Mechanical Design Engineers to support the development of mechanical solutions across all stages of the Product Life Cycle, from early concept and detailed design through qualification, production, and in-service support. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will contribute to the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies for a range of complex weapons and weapon systems, while developing your technical capability within a supportive multi-disciplinary environment.
Salary: Circa £35,000 to £50,000 depending on experience
Location: Stevenage (relocation package may be available)
Dynamic (Hybrid) Working: an average of 2–3 days per week on-site dependent on work classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The Opportunity:
The role provides excellent opportunities to build experience across the full product life cycle, working on real defence programmes while being supported by experienced engineers. You will gain exposure to structured development processes, qualification activities, and multi-disciplinary collaboration, with clear opportunities for technical growth and progression within MBDA. Appointments will be made at an appropriate level based on skills and experience.
What we’re looking for from you:
- Ideally Degree, HND, or HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), or working towards one
- Early-career experience or relevant placements in mechanical design or development
- An understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals
- Willingness to learn and apply structured design approaches such as DFMEA, DFA, and DFM
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive, organised approach with the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Interest in developing knowledge of proving, qualification, and compliance activities
- Basic experience with 3D CAD/CAE tools (training provided on company systems)
