An exciting new opportunity has become available within the Manufacturing Engineering function for a Principal PCBA Engineer to join the CCA/PCBA team.
Salary:Circa £50,000depending on experience
Dynamic (hybrid) working: 4-5 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship
Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:
The Principal Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Process Engineering Team. Managing objectives and performance, development of skills and capabilities of the team, managing sickness/absence and allocating workloads are some of the main aspects of the leadership role.
You will also be responsible for various technical aspects of CCA/PCBA. This will involve leading continuous improvement activities, representing the manufacturing team at various technical forums and solving technical problems.
Working with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will be working on multiple projects / multiple manufacturing tasks whilst also running the process engineering team:
- Manage Senior Process Engineers in their day-to-day technical role
- Support the manufacturing area in its growth and rate increase
- Drive continuous improvement through the team/organisation and lead CI activities
- Support manufacturing architecture plans to operate lean principles, whilst also compiling business cases for process improvements/factory of the future concepts
- Support the Non-Conformance Process
- Interface with the design authority during the product prototype/development phase, to ensure optimised Design for Manufacture (DfM), or in the production phase for change implementation including supporting the NPI team in creating design rules for manufacturability of CCAs
- Support the smooth transition from development to production including transfer of CCA builds from Manufacturing South to Bolton
- Ensure processes and equipment contribute to a safe working environment following both company processes and legal obligations.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing methods, processes and equipment to provide a robust and repeatable manufacturing system.
- Develop and maintain cross functional relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers
- Perform and review PFMEAs (process failure mode effect analysis)
- Support the training and development of the Process Engineers
- Be a recognised point of contact for technical CCA/PCBA enquiries
What we\’re looking for from you:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Formal technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship to Level 3 (NVQ)
- AND
- Formal further education certificate to Level 4 (HND) or equivalent in a relevant subject
- ALTERNATIVELY
- BEng/BSc in relevant Engineering/Technical Degree (Level 5)
EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated People Management Experience
- Experience in Circuit Card Manufacturing or Design
- Knowledge of CCA/PCBA Processes and Technologies
- Able to work with minimum supervision
- Be highly motivated and enthusiastic to lead a high performing team
- Experience and understanding of managing an engineering team
- Must demonstrate a proactive approach to process improvements
- Proficient in manufacturing systems such as: ERP systems, Manufacturing Execution System etc.
- Training in IPC J Std-001 and IPC-610 would be beneficial
- Knowledge of Electro Static Discharge and its prevention would be beneficial
