THIS IS A STRATEGIC ROLE - NOT OPERATIONAL

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Housing Standards, Assets & Investment to lead one of the most complex and high-profile housing portfolios in local government. This is a senior interim, strategic leadership role focused on shaping direction, driving improvement, and ensuring long-term sustainability across housing standards, asset management, compliance and investment.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director of Housing & Commercial Partnerships, you will sit on the Housing Leadership Team and act as a key driver of resident-focused change. You will provide strategic leadership to a directorate of 160+ staff (up to 7 direct reports) and oversee significant revenue and capital investment programmes impacting 22,000 council homes.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven senior leadership experience in local government or complex organisations
  • Strong background in housing, property, asset management or the built environment
  • Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary services and budgets
  • Deep knowledge of housing regulation, building safety and compliance
  • Track record of service transformation and measurable improvement
  • Politically astute, with experience working with elected Members
  • Inclusive, resident-focused leader with a compassionate approach

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership of housing standards, assets and investment
  • Lead on building safety, fire safety, regulation and statutory compliance
  • Own the housing asset strategy, investment planning and major works programmes
  • Oversee repairs, remedial works, M&E services, and damp & mould remediation at a strategic level
  • Lead temporary accommodation property management and supply strategy
