We’re hiring a Lead GenAI Engineer within a high-growth fintech/data intelligence scaleup. This is a hybrid role that combines hands-on technical expertise with line management and team development. You will mentor a young, high-performing engineering group while driving the architecture, delivery, and evolution of our GenAI-powered products. You’ll join a highly talented AI organisation (reporting into the Senior ML Manager) and work closely with product, backend, and frontend teams to ship impactful, user-facing AI features.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development: Manage and grow a small team of AI Engineers (starting with 2–3, scaling to ~5). Act as a player–coach, remaining hands-on while mentoring, unblocking, and developing engineers. Establish engineering best practices, delivery processes, and a high-performance team culture.
- Technical Ownership: Lead architecture and development of LLM-powered and agentic applications, including RAG systems, chat/workflow agents, and domain-specific AI services. Drive technical direction with sound judgement and pragmatic decision-making. Build and deploy production-grade GenAI systems end to end: prototyping → integration → deployment → monitoring. Write and review high-quality Python code; ensure engineering standards are upheld across the team.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with backend, frontend, and product engineering teams to integrate GenAI capabilities.
Key Requirements
- Demonstrated line management experience leading small teams (2–5 engineers).
- Strong hands-on experience shipping real GenAI/LLM systems into production.
- Deep expertise in: LLMs & transformer-based models, agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Python, building or integrating LLMs into products or workflows, working with GenAI frameworks and tooling, designing or optimising prompt pipelines, deploying or supporting GenAI features in production.
- Comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on engineering early on.
- Strong communication skills and ability to guide product–engineering discussions.
Nice to Haves
- Experience building agentic workflows, multi-agent systems, or autonomous LLM tools.
- Fintech domain exposure (not essential).
This position does not provide visa sponsorship and requires existing right to work in the UK.
