The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work with our teaching and other support staff to mentor, support and inspire our pupils with curriculum and non-curriculum based learning. Throughout the day you will help prepare the classroom and learning spaces, create displays and exhibitions of the children’s work, and prepare for different activities. You will support pupils who need extra support to complete tasks or have difficulty engaging with schoolwork, watch for challenging behaviour, help promote positive behaviour, and offer emotional support to aid pupils’ emotional and social development, while informing other staff of any issues.

As part of the team you will help pupils become independent learners, stay focused and engaged in the tasks and lessons set by the teacher, explain different tasks and activities, assist with a wide range of classroom and school‑based activities, and provide 1:1 and group support, including listening to children read, reading to them, or telling them stories.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong and appropriate relationships with children and parents/carers.
  • Outstanding numeracy and literacy skills and a genuine passion for making learning engaging and irresistible for children.
  • Adaptability to support the individual needs of each child is crucial.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating a high level of professionalism are also key requirements.
  • Experience working with children across the primary curriculum, including those with social, emotional and mental health needs, is desirable.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement of practice is also valued.
