Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 17 diagnosed with psychiatric and developmental conditions. Located in Portsmouth, VA, the center provides intensive residential treatment in a comfortable setting that promotes recovery. Specialized programs serve children and adolescents with depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and other mental health concerns, as well as intellectual disabilities and self‑injurious behavior. The facility is accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities, licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education, and approved by TRICARE.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight, training, and scheduling of compliance training for staff.
- Ensure consistent use of nursing and residential care processes to deliver quality care, implement safety policies, and serve as a resource to nursing and direct‑care staff.
- Collaborate with department personnel to establish and comply with resident‑care standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Provide coaching and modeling reinforcement to mental‑health technicians regarding training concepts.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate training efforts with cross‑functional areas.
- Develop and administer a department‑specific training curriculum and enhance training development programs.
- Conduct training sessions covering processes specific to the designated departments.
- Develop teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works.
- Organize and direct seminars, workshops, and individual training sessions.
- Collaborate with management to evaluate the company’s training requirements.
- Mentor and support new employees in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
- Analyze areas of improvement.
- Select and book venues for training.
- Maintain compliance records and manage attendance for employee training.
Qualifications
- Must possess demonstrated leadership ability, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.

Education
- Minimum bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma with applicable experience required. Additional educational background applicable to this setting is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of three years supervisory experience.
- Preferred: 3–5 years of experience working with children and adolescents in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; stand, walk, kneel, and reach while working with students for approximately 80‑90% of the day; use full range of body motion, including handling and physically restraining students when necessary; perform first aid and CPR; may require physical exertion for training activities; must possess physical ability to assist in restraining residents.
