Job Description \n We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a public sector team delivering secure, scalable, and reliable digital infrastructure. You'll play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines that support critical government services, ensuring they are resilient, secure, and compliant with public sector standards. \n Day to day duties: \n \n Designing, deploying, and managing containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes, including managed offerings such as AKS and EKS \n Building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, alongside configuration management tools such as Ansible or Chef \n Managing and optimising cloud environments across Azure and AWS \n Developing and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes \n Writing automation scripts and tooling using Python, Bash, and/or PowerShell \n Implementing and maintaining monitoring and logging solutions to ensure system visibility, reliability, and performance \n Applying strong security practices across infrastructure, pipelines, and deployments, in line with government security standards \n Designing and troubleshooting networking configurations across cloud and hybrid environments \n Managing identity and access management (IAM) solutions to ensure secure, least-privilege access \n Collaborating with development, security, and operations teams to promote DevOps best practice and continuous improvement \n \n Skill set: \n \n Proven experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration in production environments \n Hands-on experience with Terraform and at least one configuration management tool (Ansible or Chef)\n Solid experience working across Azure and/or AWS, including managed Kubernetes services (AKS/EKS)\n Strong understanding of containerisation principles and tooling (Docker)\n Experience building pipelines in GitLab CI/CD (or similar CI/CD platforms)\n Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell \n Working knowledge of monitoring/logging tools (eg Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Azure Monitor, CloudWatch)\n Good understanding of security best practices in cloud and DevOps environments \n Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (VPCs/VNets, load balancing, DNS, Firewalls)\n Experience with identity and access management concepts (RBAC, SSO, managed identities/IAM roles)\n Ability to obtain or hold UK government security clearance \n \n Desirable \n \n Experience working within public sector or highly regulated environments \n Familiarity with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards and ways of working \n Certifications such as CKA, Terraform Associate, AWS/Azure certifications \n \n Applicants must have active SC Clearance to be considered.
