Mayfield School is looking for an efficient, skilled and compassionate Attendance Officer to join our team. Our school is a special school for 315 pupils aged between 3 and 19 with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities including autism. Mayfield is a UNICEF Rights respecting School on a journey to achieve the gold award. The school is split across two sites – Wheeler Street in Lozells and Heathfield Road in Handsworth. Successful applicants may be asked to work at either site depending on the needs of the school. This post will initially be based at the Heathfield Road site.

About this Role: Mayfield School is committed to meeting its obligation to encourage good school attendance through a whole-school culture and ethos. Promoting school attendance is a priority for Mayfield and the Attendance Officer will play a crucial role in raising the profile of attendance in school and improving school attendance. Mayfield ensures every pupil has access to the full-time education to which they are entitled. The impact of a full-time education reflects in a pupil’s academic, social and emotional progress and provides life skills in the preparation for adulthood.

Mayfield adopts a holistic approach to attendance management which enables us to break down barriers and provide support that is tailored to meet the individual needs of all families. All interventions and support are implemented with the aim of promoting good attendance, reducing persistent and severe absence and building strong relationships with families to ensure pupils have the support in place to attend school and experience positive outcomes.

The role will involve working alongside many different stakeholders within the school. This includes parents, carers, children and young people, class-based staff teams, the pastoral team and the Associate Heads of School with responsibility for safeguarding, behaviour and attendance. Opportunities for sharing good practice and networking with attendance officers from across the Trust will be provided. This role involves home visits and use of own car with business use insurance is required.
