Responsibilities
- Undertake field survey work for a range of ecological projects, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, protected species surveys and Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments.
- Produce technical reports, survey documentation and mitigation strategies.
- Support senior colleagues with the production of Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitat Regulations Assessments and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans.
- Liaise with clients, contractors and project teams with confidence when required.
- Assist with project management, including working to deadlines and project finances.
- Provide ecological advice and support to other decisions within Maydencroft Limited.
- Maintain accurate field data and ensure high standards of quality and attention to detail.
- Support seasonal staff where required.
Qualifications
- Degree in ecology or related subject.
- At least two years’ experience working within ecological consultancy or a related discipline.
- FISC Level 3 minimum.
- Member of CIEEM – Associate level desirable.
- Good understanding of legislation and protected species guidance.
- Experience undertaking habitat surveys and protected species surveys.
- Substantial field survey experience.
- Excellent report-writing skills.
- Experience with GIS software.
- Confidence and ability to communicate in a professional manner.
- Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
- FISC Level 4+ Protected species licences.
- Project management experience.
- Understanding of UK planning system and experience supporting development projects.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and capable Ecologist who is keen to develop their career within a supportive and ambitious consultancy environment. The successful candidate will contribute to a broad range of ecological consultancy projects across the commercial, public, private, utility and charity sectors, while developing technical skills and experience alongside a highly experienced team. We are a close-knit group of ecological, landscape, arboricultural and forestry consultants working as an integral part of the broader company, which includes arborists, foresters, groundsmen, landscape operatives and farmers. At Maydencroft we greatly value professional integrity, a dedicated yet flexible work ethic, and impeccable standards of quality.
Compensation and Working Hours
Starting from £32,000. Full-time working hours are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
