Location: We are looking for a consultant based in Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire or Hampshire (or able to relocate to Surrey Sussex).
The workplace: The role will be largely remote with occasional working from our Windsor office.
Role responsibilities:
- Managing an existing portfolio of woodland owners and forestry clients across a diverse range of sites
- Undertaking woodland assessments and preparing Forestry Commission-approved Woodland Management Plans
- Leading the production of UKFS-compliant Woodland Creation Design Plans
- Preparing and supporting grant applications, including EWCO and Countryside Stewardship schemes
- Assisting with Ancient Woodland Restoration Assessments and the preparation of associated technical reports
- Supporting the planning, implementation and maintenance of woodland creation and restocking schemes
- Leading on harvesting operations and timber marketing
- Producing forestry mapping and managing spatial data using GIS software
- Managing and developing subcontractor relationships in line with company supplier evaluation procedures
- Supporting the preparation of tenders and PQQ submissions in collaboration with the bid-writing team and Senior Management Team
- Advising clients on woodland budgets, grant allocations and long-term management planning
- Supporting the consultancy team in preparing documentation and liaising with organisations including the Forestry Commission, Rural Payments Agency, Environment Agency, Natural England and Woodland Trust
- Assisting with the development of new services, projects and geographic areas of business growth
Core skills and requirements:
- A forestry degree or equivalent with a sound knowledge of lowland forestry
- Experience in working with mostly ancient, broadleaf woodlands
- Excellent communication skills and report writing
- An understanding of state funded woodland grant schemes and an awareness of blended finance opportunities
- A thorough understanding of UKFS, forestry health and safety requirements and legal requirements
- An understanding of carbon capture, natural capital, woodland resilience and ongoing tree health issues would be useful
