We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced sysops engineer to join the team, providing technical support across the business.
The role is responsible for:
- the security, stability and uptime of production, staging and development environments
- monitoring the above environments and reacting to alerts and issues that may arise in day-to-day operation of the product line
- the maintenance of network, server and storage assets in data centre environments (AWS VPC, EC2, networking etc.)
- ongoing upgrades and improvements to infrastructure and processes, including driving the use of the latest technologies available such as cloud native services
As a systems team we work closely together, pair programming, white-boarding and architecting as a team, and peer reviewing each other’s work. We have fun while we work and are passionate about technology. We work in an agile way and we collaborate with developers, product owners, UX, account managers and other members of the product and customer experience teams to identify how best to support our products and business.
Our current tech stack includes (but isn’t limited to) PHP, Slim Framework, JavaScript, React and MySQL, primarily hosted in AWS, using EC2 to serve the stack.
Successful candidates will:
- have 2+ years AWS experience facilitating secure, high-availability production workloads at scale across multiple environments
- be able to demonstrate experience with Terraform and Ansible (or aligned technologies) and general systems administration experience in multi-layer Linux-based application stacks
- be comfortable working through problems with a team and take a positive, proactive and collaborative approach to problem solving
- be passionate about the work we do as well as the technology we use
- enjoy working closely with both technical and non-technical colleagues and have good self-organisation and communication skills
- have experience of dealing with incident response and/or disaster recovery scenarios
- be comfortable with pair working and with work being peer reviewed
- be keen to learn as well as to contribute to the development of others
- have a flexible approach to work, and be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team
Successful candidates may:
- have experience with VCS (e.g. Git), configuration and use of scripting via bash/Python, configuration and use of CI/CD, and incident response, monitoring, and root cause analysis
- already have AWS Associate-level certifications or be interested in gaining them
- have facilitated production workloads at scale within Azure
- be comfortable designing and running enterprise workloads at scale within containerised environments
We offer a phenomenal working environment, exciting opportunities to learn new skills, and an excellent package of benefits including:
- Life assurance
- Private health insurance
- Pension (enhanced after successful completion of probation)
- Personal training and conference budget
- Onsite gym
- Parking, including EV charging points
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (with the option to buy or sell annual leave after probation is complete)
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity, based at our offices in Oldfield Park, Bath. Collaboration is one of our four company values - we work best together. We believe there is significant benefit from working face to face when doing so. At the same time, some work may be carried out just as effectively alone and away from the office. We have therefore created a flexible ‘place of work’ policy that asks everyone to be where the work of the day is best completed and overall spend enough time in the office with others to maintain relationships and communication. Many people find this approach means they work in the office 3 or more days a week but this varies according to role and the work they have to do.
You must be eligible to live and work in the UK. This role is not eligible for sponsorship by Mayden for a skilled worker visa. We are therefore unable to accept applications from individuals who would require an employer to sponsor them for a work permit.
Please upload:
- Your CV
- a covering letter describing your interest in the role and sharing a little about what you would bring to the team and to Mayden.
- A copy of your passport and if required your share code and date of birth (only required to evidence your right to work in the UK when using a share code).
We will review applications as they arrive and this role will therefore close upon receipt of applications reaching our limit or making a successful offer to a candidate. Please note that successful applicants will be asked to complete a basic DBS check as part of their onboarding process. These checks are processed by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and will be paid for by Mayden. The need for DBS screening follows requirements from our customers and NHS England.
We look forward to hearing from you!
