Main duties and responsibilities:
  • Report for work on time and in complete uniform.
  • Maintain high standards of appearance and personal hygiene, keeping provided uniform in good repair.
  • Be responsible for any keys or devices and return them to original position after shift.
  • Have general knowledge of the hotel’s layout and be able to communicate hotel services to guests when requested by them.
  • Attend departmental training sessions and/or meetings when required.
  • Ensure services and standards are maintained to the highest level as per Hotel Policy.
  • Perform duties of other House Porters in their absence as directed by Supervisor/Manager.
  • Know the correct way to greet guests, always using the guest’s name, follow LQA/Forbes standards.
  • When taking items to a guest’s room, know the correct procedure for entering a room.
  • Make sure all the maid services, waiter services and storage are well stocked and cleaned.
  • Keep all areas clean and clear of dirty linen, rubbish, and obstructions at all times.
  • Keep all fire exits clear of rubbish and obstructions at all times.
  • Assist with stock take in linen room and stores.
  • To undertake daily, weekly, and monthly stock takes.
  • Collect weekly deliveries and store in designated areas.
  • Shampoo & spot carpets, clean furniture and upholstery when requested by Supervisor/Manager.
  • Clean and maintain service and storage areas, corridors, guest, and staff lifts.
  • Ensure Housekeeping stores are well maintained.
  • Clean and change any fixtures and fittings as instructed by Supervisor/Manager.
  • This is to include the cleaning of balconies.
  • Move, remove, lift and install beds, cots, furniture, mattresses, etc as required and directed by Supervisor/Manager and ensure visual H&S check completed.
  • Turn mattresses in rooms as directed by Supervisor/Manager.
  • Assist Room Attendant when tasks are too heavy for them.
  • Assist in moving furniture in public areas, offices etc when required.
  • Organise special set up for guest requirements, baby cots, extra beds etc.
  • Be responsible for the changing of heavy curtains, net curtains and valances, when requested.
  • Collect or change bedding when requested by the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Be responsible for linen replenishing and clearance of the pantries.
  • Report any soiled or damaged furniture, fixtures, fittings and equipment to the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Report immediately and hand over all lost property to security.
  • Report immediately anyone or anything suspicious to Security, Supervisor or Manager.
  • Report immediately anything that may be a health and safety hazard to the Supervisor/Manager.
  • Report any accident (however minor) to the Executive Housekeeper or the Assistant Executive Housekeeper.
  • To report any maintenance faults and to follow up to ensure that they are properly repaired to the hotel standards.
  • Know fire and bomb procedures and report anything or anyone suspicious to the Security/Supervisor/Manager.
