Across our Islington and King’s Cross ateliers, skilled jewellers craft each design in limited runs, combining traditional techniques with a contemporary approach. Our process is intentionally considered, from sketch to model, setting to final polish, with care and attention given to every stage. We are deeply committed to delivering an exceptional client experience and take great pride in the quality of every piece we create.
As a bespoke jewellery maker & designer at Maya Magal, you will be instrumental in the design and production of some of our most exciting pieces of jewellery. This is a hybrid role that allows you to channel your creativity into unique designs and push your craft abilities in creating them from scratch and with CAD. Alongside these main aspects of the role, you will carry out administrative tasks that ensure the smooth running of the workshop.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Designing unique pieces of jewellery including engagement and wedding rings.
- Producing technical drawings for the client as well as the team member creating the final piece with a focus on MM brand style.
- Crafting our pieces (handmade and cleaning up CAD casts).
- Managing the smooth running of the workshop.
- Sourcing gemstones from a range of suppliers to design around and present to clients.
- Liaising with Hatton Garden subcontractors like stone setters, casting houses and quality controlling the work carried out under the MM name.
- Designing and producing one-off style engagement rings to be sold in store under the MM brand name.
Client Relations: You are expected to work efficiently via email, video call and phone call to turn new enquiries into sales opportunities. Following MM internal systems using Google forms/sheets, you will then hold in-person design consultations to close the sale.
Bookkeeping: Maintaining records of invoices from Hatton Garden subcontractors including stone setters, bullion dealers, gemstone suppliers, CAD designers etc. Providing quotes/costs for each unique design and assigning a strict budget to each job while intuitively managing each design as a mini-project to maximise profitability.
Proven experience with creating bespoke jewellery designs with clients is essential. Proven capabilities in leading design consultations and presenting technical drawings (ideally Adobe Illustrator based designs) are required. You should have a can-do attitude, be flexible and a team player, along with a working understanding of contacts in Hatton Garden to support production.
A working understanding of jewellery photography to assist in capturing content is also beneficial.
Benefits include:
- Jewellery uniform allowance and product discounts.
- Flexible core working hours.
- 28 days of annual leave per year, plus one day for every additional year of employment including bank holidays (plus an extra day off on your birthday!).
- The flexibility to conduct your own work in your own time and to use our workshops and benches as needed.
- Support for professional development and emotional well-being.
- Optional pension contributions.
- Occasional Saturdays and fairly frequent evenings until 6.30pm / 7pm.
Successful candidates will be required to complete a design-based project and participate in a bench test to demonstrate their skills in handcrafting engagement rings. At Maya Magal, we are committed to building a diverse workforce and encourage those from all backgrounds to apply. We do not discriminate based on age, gender, sexual orientation, race or disability.
Note: The role described is not limited to the duties outlined; within our small business, there is an opportunity to progress and expand the role in line with each individual’s skill set.
