Role Overview:

Our client is a City Traders based in the heart of the city… they are expanding the team and offering an excellent gradual career step through the business.

It is an excellent opportunity of a proactive, reliable, and detail-oriented Junior Accounts Assistant to join the Finance team.

This is a hands-on role that plays a key part in keeping financial operations running smoothly. It\’s ideal for someone who takes full ownership of their responsibilities, is eager to build expertise, and can manage tasks with growing independence.

Able to build confidence in handling tasks in a structured and independent way, taking ownership and showing initiative as you grow into the role. Over time, we hope you\’ll become a trusted point of contact for these processes, with a strong sense of responsibility and attention to details.

You\’ll support the accounts payable function, maintain expenditure ledgers, process expense claims, and manage accrual and prepayment schedules. You will also act as the banking and system liaison, helping to manage day-to-day matters with external partners. The role also includes handling legal/statutory returns such as statistical submissions.

Key Responsibilities:

Accurately process and maintain ledger entries in SAP Business ByDesign and other accounting systems
Review and manage company expenditures and employee expense claims in line with company policy
Handle accounts payable tasks including invoice processing, system uploading, and payment runs
Ensure invoices are paid on time and payment runs are completed accurately
Maintain and update accrual and prepayment schedules
Assist with cost analysis and respond to queries
Perform daily bank reconciliations and other daily reports that requested
Support month-end and year-end closing activities
Prepare and submit statutory returns (e.g. statistical reports) as required
Act as the banking and system liaison, helping to manage day-to-day matters with external partners
Take ownership of assigned tasks and work proactively to resolve issues
Provide general assistance across the Finance team as needed

Requirements:

Minimum 2 years\’ experience in an accounting or finance role
Some experience within a trading or commodities firm would be an advantage
Strong attention to detail, with a proactive and dependable approach to work
Ability to take initiative and build confidence in managing tasks independently
Familiarity with SAP Business ByDesign, SAP Concur or similar ERP systems (preferred)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office tools
Good communication skills and a collaborative working style
Ideally (not essential) working towards a recognised accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA)
